Victoria BC real estate is adorned with several architectural gems. One of the most famous is Craigdarroch Castle. Built in the 1890s by Robert Dunsmuir, who made a fortune in the coal industry, the Castle has been restored and maintained in all its glory. A visit offers insight into the life of one of the city’s privileged families through their Victoria home. Building began on the Castle in 1887 and was completed in 1890. Robert Dunsmuir died in 1889 and left his entire estate to his wife, Joan. The Castle has four floors, 39 rooms, and over 20,000 square feet of living space. No expense was spared in the building, and stained glass windows and fine woodwork can be found throughout. A visit is a treat for anyone interested in architecture or the history of the city.
